Your Levels of Consciousness

The concept of levels of consciousness, provides an insight into the path in front of you.

As we gain experience and wisdom, our level of consciousness and awareness naturally rises and so our view of the world changes (grows). This normally the way of things for those of us who live life as a learning experience.

Personal development note :Of course it depends on whether it can be said of a person that they have many years experience, or one experience many times!

The way in which the world reflects upon our consciousness is different for each of us and varies from day to day, however I hope this overview will give you a frame of reference to work from.

Where your personality type determines how you instinctively react to a given situation, because that is your character in action, your level of consciousness is the big picture of how you live your life.

In order to map out where each of us is coming from (or going to), here are the levels of consciousness expressed as seven levels. The first three levels of consciousness reflect your day to day interactions and reactions.

These first three levels of consciousness fall within the realm of "binary thinking". Binary thinking is when everything 'has' to judged, ie :

• Good - bad
• Right - wrong
• Blame, fault, condemnation
• Us - Them

Understanding your predominant level of consciousness provides you with a measure of where you are and where personal development is taking you.

The Levels of Consciousness :

Security

People who work out of the security level of consciousness find their lives ruled by a need of avoiding risk, whether emotional or career, in particular, their career.

They avoid outside influences, and observe life from behind an impenetrable comfort zone. They have a tendency to accumulate material goods.

Being a member of a club, group, or church often provides them with a sense of belonging and protection.

Sensation

For those people working out of the sensational level of consciousness, everything must be bigger, better, more dramatic.

They live life as observers, but likes to appear to be movers and shakers. They accumulate hangers on (sidekicks). They are more independent than the security level, but is likely to be a member of a club, group, or church in order to have an audience.

Power

People working out of the power level of consciousness take risks, manipulates and uses others.

Their principle motivation is to cause people to see and do things their way. They acquire wealth and influence in order to acquire more wealth and influence.

Power becomes an end in itself. They may have dictatorial tendencies. They are basically independent, but are likely to be a member of a club, group, or church in order to attain a position of authority..

Self Help Note : These first three levels of consciousness represent three dimensional living - the material and physical world.

Whilst for some people their lives are rigidly defined by one of these consciousness types, some people move from one type to another daily as a process of evolution and development.

Those who have expanded their perception of reality beyond their mere physical, do not fear change, because their reality is not threatened by physical outward events.

In fact, change and thus personal development, can be viewed as a state of excitement.

The transition to the "higher levels" of consciousness is a growth path which begins with understanding - both of yourself and of other people.

At first it may simply be that instead of judging someones actions as bad, or stupid or whatever, understanding kicks in and you do not judge, after all if you were in their shoes, you may have done the same thing!

The realisation that there is another side, another way of perceiving a situation, a greater reality, is the doorway to the four "higher levels of consciousness".

Often the catalyst for change may be acts of kindness, or the examples of others. Our relationships with our pets are often a portal to understanding that we are capable of unconditional love.

Love

I am talking about unconditional love. People who work from this level find their principle motivation is the well being of others. They see in others a positive reflection of self, ie: I'm Ok, you're Ok.

There is no forgiveness at this level, because there is no condemnation. This level of consciousness is when we are beyond condemning, judging, then forgiving.

People who live at this level have an altruistic outlook, develop a caring personality, are well centered.

Love for all others is a reflection of high self esteem.

Self Awareness

People who operate from this level have detached themselves from the imperatives of the lower three levels of consciousness.

They are able to observe themselves acting out those roles.

At this level of consciousness, one is aware of all the interactions making the tapestry of life. They are in control of life without needing to exert control. These people are masters of their lives.

Cosmic Awareness

A fully enlightened being who is living at one with the Universal truths and mind. They have achieved transcendence of daily cause and effect and have total mastery of their existence.

Christ Consciousness

This is the level of awareness attained by the avatars and those who achieve "super consciousness".

Such an exalted state is beyond my humble comprehension at this time. This level of consciousness is achieved by few, and religions are usually based on the lives of such entities!

Self Help Note : Progressing from one level of consciousness to another is not some form of contest. You may experience any particular level of consciousness at any time.

Becoming enlightened is not a competition - there is no first prize! Expanding your awareness is its own reward.

There is only the journey of life - you have free will - enjoy and prosper!

That puts personal development into a nutshell!
