Introduction to
Guided Meditation

Before we start, the concept of Alpha guided meditation rests on the foundation of harnessing your imagination so that you can visualise your desired outcomes in order to project them toward reality.

Imagination :

When you read a book, your imagination supplies the pictures. A vivid imagination is your path to creativity!

Before we were bombarded with continual images by the media, we had to use our imagination to provide our own images - as children we developed our own games.

Not only is todays constant stimulation detrimental to our peace of mind, our imagination is being replaced by carefully preprocessed images.

The media industry is trying to steal your Imagination!

Your faculty of imagination is a vital part of your being. It is the essence of your creative ability and is the seed of your intuition.

In fact, by developing your imagination you can open doorways to latent skills and abilities which many would find amazing.

Imagination Is Your Individuality.

Through guided meditation you will learn to reverse the process of over stimulation by teaching your mind to be peaceful, and reaching a state of simply being from where your creativity is free to flow.

This puts you back in control.

To start with you may experience difficulty from your accustomed state of always thinking of something or other. You will find that you cannot simply block thoughts out.

Thinking of not thinking is a thought-process in itself!

Envisage it this way: you are not your thoughts, you are the space which they occupy!

An allegory to this statement is to see yourself as the sky and your thoughts are the clouds. As they appear, simply let them drift by and vanish.

Some forms of meditation do not require a release of the thought-processes, in fact they use it creatively.

In a guided meditation, where someone is talking you through a meditative experience, your thought-processes are guided into suggested images.

Note - This is not hypnosis or even near it. This is simply suggested imagery which you are free to follow or not. At all times during a guided meditation you are free to open your eyes and break off the session.

With a guided meditation, the ability to visualize clearly is very important. This is the ability to 'see' with your eyes closed, invoking the powers of your imagination.

With discipline and practice, you will learn to produce clearer images in your mind, not just a general picture, but absoloutely specific images in living color as requested bt the guided meditation. The more real the better.

The images suggested by the guided meditation are the images of what you desire to project to the universe, and the clearer the image you project, the better connection you can establish between the reality of your imagination and the reality of your life.

This is the point where you are in control, with the power of your mind working for you - at your command.

Visualising :

There is a learning curve to visualising :

  • At first you pretend you are visualising
  • Then you imagine you are visualising
  • Finally at last you are visualising

Visualising something is the art of imagining something then being able to see it in your minds eye.

For some people this ability is automatic, whilst others have to work at it - however, you can do it! Practice, practice, practice.

Visualising something is not simply thinking about it - you must be able to "see" your desire as if in reality.

Clearly visualising your desires is a vital step in bringing your desires into being, in fact alpha guided meditation depends upon it.

For your guided meditation to the Alpha State of Mind, I would like you to imagine a scene from nature which will become a center piece of your guided meditation. It may be any peaceful scene from nature which you can think of.

If you can remember a place in nature which is suitable and holds pleasant experiences – then please use it. Otherwise it is fine to let your imagination conceive of any idyllic scene in nature.

This is your own personal space, where all is serene, all is good, all is safe. Of course at any time you may change it to suit yourself, but please give it some thought before beginning the guided meditation exercises.

Before we begin the guided meditation take note of the colours of the rainbow. It is important that you can visualise these colours in your minds eye at will.

............................Violet.............................

............................Purple.............................

.............................Blue..............................

............................Green.............................

...........................Yellow............................

...........................Orange............................

..............................Red..............................

Initially some people have a little difficulty seeing colours with their eyes closed as such, but have no difficulty in visualising an object of the appropriate colour - say a piece of fruit.

Each of the seven colours are associated with an area of energy centre of the body termed a chakra, and represents specific properties :-

  • Violet - the crown of the head : connection to the divine
  • Purple - the third eye : intuition, Extra-sensory perception
  • Blue - the throat : speech, self-expression
  • Green - the heart : devotion, love, compassion, healing, peace
  • Yellow - the solar plexus : mental processes, career, self awareness
  • Orange - the lower abdomen : emotion, sexual energy, creativity
  • Red - the base of the spine : instinct, survival, security

To play my pre-recorded guided meditation, select one of the two buttons below depending on your preferred format. The Blue Button plays the meditation with a silent background, whilst the Green Button plays the meditation with a background sound loop.

To begin - take three deep breaths. Hold each breath for at least ten seconds, then expel it, releasing with it all your day's tensions.

Close your eyes and find yourself relaxed and at peace.

Now imagine a rainbow.

We will now visalise each colour in turn.

First visualise the colour red. Red is associated with the base of your spine, and represents security.

Now imagine the colour orange. Orange is associated with your lower abdomen and represents creativity.

Change to the colour yellow, centred on your solar plexus. Yellow is associated with mental processes. Feel your mind and body becoming more relaxed.

Now visualise the colour green emanating from your heart. Green is associated with peace and love. Feel a wave of peace spreading throughout your body.

Change to the colour blue, the colour of speech and self expression.

See the colour purple, which is centred at the third eye. Purple represents your spirituality.

Now visualize the colour violet radiating from the top of your head. Imagine a vortex connecting you with the life force of the universe.

On the count of three find yourself in your scene from nature....... one, two, three.

Notice how relaxed and peaceful you have become. You are now in an 'alpha state of consciousness'.

Look at the sky of your scene of nature. Notice if there are any clouds ........., look around you, take in details of your surroundings.

Notice the trees, the grass, whether or not there are any flowers growing at the moment.

If there are, notice their colours.

Listen for the sounds of your surroundings. The sound of any water, birds singing, the breeze sighing in the trees. Notice the scents of the scene, of grass and flowers.

This is a wonderous and pristine scene, and as such it is a reflection of you.

Remove anything which is not in harmony with the peacefulness of this scene.

Sit down and make yourself comfortable. Lie back and feel the warmth of the sun overhead shining down upon you. Feel the rays of the sun penetrating your whole body, healing and invigorating every cell.

Now sit in meditation. be aware of the peace and serenity of this place. This is your own personal space, where all is serene, all is good, all is safe. Now it is time to return from your nature scene.

Visualise the end of a rainbow coming towards you, so that you are about to become the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

First you are surrounded by the colour violet, then as the rainbow moves on you are immersed in purple light.

Then all about you is bathed in blue light ........, which is replaced by green light.

Now the light turns yellow for a few moments, then changes to orange, and finally as the rainbow passes you are bathed in red light.

The red light fades and you are sitting at peace in meditation, aware only of your breathing .............

On the count of three, find yourself are back in the physical world, feeling at peace and refreshed.

One, two, three .....

Open your eyes and take a few moments to contemplate the serenity this guided meditation has brought.
