Building Self Esteem

Building Self Esteem is all about who you are, not what you are, or what you might or might not have done. In fact a low self esteem is what has been done to you!

You were born with a healthy self esteem - in fact you were the centre of your world, however soon others who disagreed with that view set out to teach you their way of thinking.

With each lesson, your self esteem reached a new low, and now here you are re-learning what you set out with.

At your very core there is a shining light which is unique, this is what makes you – you! Discovering this shining light is what building self esteem is about.

Building your self esteem is a process of you growing your :

    • Belief in Yourself.
    • Self Respect.
    • Personal Worth.
    • Sense of Purpose.
    • Sense of Belonging.
    • Self Confidence.
    • Self Image.

Now in case you haven't noticed, this whole site - Be Master of Your Life Personal Development Course is entirely about Building Self Esteem.

So in this vein, this page is basically a summary of the the self understanding sections of the Be Master of Your Life course with links the the appropriate sections.

In building a higher self esteem, you will become a positive thinker! Positive thinking is the way in which you react to something. Whether you think positively or negatively is automatic - it is the way in which you are "wired up", but it is not the way it has to be. You can rewire yourself to be a positive thinker, although it has to be one step at a time.

To begin with, we need to find a starting point, something simple which you can do, a change which in turn is going to start the change in direction of your life. So, how to make it happen? What is it you can do?

Start with changing your word patterns!

Words are thoughts made into action!

If your eyes are the window to your soul, then the words you use are the road map to where you are going.

This is the easiest conscious change you can make - beginning with the next thing you say.

Continually ask yourself the following questions after each encounter with someone:

  • Were my word structures positive?
  • Were my word structures expectant?
  • Were my word structures caring?
  • Did my word structures convey my true desires?
  • Were my words reinforcing my awareness?
  • Was I really saying what I meant?
  • Was I really meaning what I said?

Our words are a double edged sword. Not only are we expressing messages to someone else, we also receive the messages ourselves! Giving yourself a constant positive feedback really helps with building self esteem.

Learn more about who you are.

When you come down to it, without your possessions (which are temporary), without your friends and family (which you don’t own anyway), you are all that you really have!

So you had better learn to like yourself!!

Being yourself is your greatest asset!

Discover your Personality Type.
Recognising who you are becomes much easier once you have recognised your personality type.

Which of the following is your predominant type?

  • Prophetic
  • Visionary
  • Intuitive
  • Feeling

Knowing your make up of these four gifts, is a great help in appreciating your strengths.

Understanding what Motivates you provides you with direction.

If answers the question of why you do things, and in particular, why you do things your way!

One of those questions you need to ask yourself when deciding if something is worth doing or not is “does it fit my motivation type?”

There are three broad categories into which define the type of person we are, and thereby the way in which we act/react to the world around us - that which motivates us. These are :

  • Security
  • Achievement
  • Social Recognition

Click Motivation to learn your motivation type.

One way of mapping your growth as a human being is to be aware of your consciousness level.

Understanding the level of consciousness you operate out of, helps your personal development by providing an indicator of where you are so you can understand the path in front of you.

Learn and use confidence affirmations.

Confidence affirmations are the application of building self esteem to the realities of life. In their presence, doubt cannot exist.

Confidence is a beacon which illuminates the darkness and shows us the way!

Confidence is to your perception of reality as colour is to a painting.

Become an expert. It does not matter so much at what, but become an expert at something. You can always find something which you like or are good at. It might just be knowing all there is to know about some minor aspect of a subject, but by knowing all there is to know about your subject you are an expert!

Nothing helps building self esteem like self confidence, and self confidence starts with knowing that you are right!

This means that no-one is better than you in this field. This means that you can be proud of your accomplishment in your field of expertise. (But don’t flaunt them at the expense of others.)

No matter how good you are, or how much you know, temper your self esteem with respect and humility. Whilst you have your field of expertise, others have theirs.

Always remember you are a human being first and an achiever second.
